Road development across the city and district has hit a slowdown, not because of funds or planning, but due to a shortage of vehicles at the Nagpur Improvement Trust’s (NIT) hotmix plant in Wanjra Industrial Area. The plant is the backbone for supplying material required for ongoing blacktopping and cement road works under both NIT and the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA). But with too few commercial vehicles available, supplies are getting choked — and with them, projects worth nearly ₹178 crore.
The hotmix plant, established in 2012 and equipped with upgraded machinery, currently operates with about 40 vehicles, including tippers, tankers, and rollers. Sources say this is far below the demand created by the scale of work in progress. At least 50 or more vehicles are needed to maintain a steady supply chain. The mismatch is stalling the timely execution of projects, frustrating contractors and citizens alike.
While machinery may be modern, officials admit that without adequate vehicles, the plant cannot keep pace with road-building commitments. The bottleneck raises questions about planning and resource allocation at a time when both NIT and NMRDA are under pressure to complete high-value road projects on deadline.
Citizens Still Fighting for a Green Gym
Residents of Sangharsh Nagar in North Nagpur have been demanding a green gym for over a year. Though NIT approved the proposal after repeated petitions, nothing has moved on the ground. Locals allege officials favor contractors and political connections while ignoring public needs. Frustration in the community continues to grow.
