Nagpur Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari has directed officials to immediately complete the ‘Vande Mataram’ Garden, being developed by NMC in honour of soldiers and recipients of gallantry awards. Dr. Chaudhari issued these instructions during a site inspection on Monday.
The garden, spread across one lakh square feet in the centrally located Empress Mill premises, is being designed as a tribute to martyrs, gallantry medal winners, ex-servicemen, war widows, and their dependents. Expressing dissatisfaction with the slow progress, Dr. Chaudhari warned that strict action would be taken against any negligence by officials.
The Commissioner also instructed completion of facilities for a Light and Sound Show and directed reinforcement and illumination of the historic Empress Mill chimney situated in the area.
Work on the garden is underway, with features such as murals of Param Vir Chakra awardees, a children’s play area, skywalk, and pedestrian pathways already completed. However, remaining works must be expedited to ensure timely completion, officials said.
