Nagpur: A prominent city builder has alleged that a four-member family cheated him of ₹3 crore in a bogus Transferable Development Rights (TDR) transaction, prompting Yashodharanagar police to register a case of fraud and criminal intimidation.
According to the complaint, Vishal Premlal Bawithle (40), a builder-developer from Binaki Mangalwari, met the accused in 2021 through mutual acquaintances. The accused—Surendra Shravanlal Verma (58), Jitendra alias Kundan Verma (45), Meera Bai Verma (82) and Rishi Rajendra Verma (34)—all residents of Premnagar near Itwari Railway Station, claimed ownership of a 2.69-hectare Binaki plot (Khasra No. 99/01, Survey No. 752) occupied by slums for five decades.
They allegedly assured Bawithle that, in return for financial assistance, they would transfer their rights to obtain TDR compensation from the government. To win his trust, the family executed sale deeds, possession papers and a special power of attorney, but allegedly never pursued the TDR process after collecting the huge sum. When Bawithle demanded action, the accused purportedly abused and threatened to kill him.
Based on his complaint, API Ghare booked the quartet under sections 316(2), 318(4), 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further investigation is underway to recover the money and determine if others were duped in a similar manner.
