The much-anticipated nationwide rollout of PM e-buses is set to begin from Nagpur, yet the launch continues to be postponed due to the Centre not finalising the logo’s three-colour design—a reason officials describe as both bizarre and inexplicable.
Although a trial run of the PM e-bus was completed over two months ago, the official launch, initially scheduled for the first week of July, was later postponed to Dussehra. Sources now indicate it may face further delays, especially as the model code of conduct (MCC) comes into effect once the local body election schedule is announced.
An official from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) transport department confirmed that the city’s infrastructure has been ready since July. “The Koradi depot is fully equipped with charging points, parking facilities, and high-tension electricity supply. We are only waiting for the Centre to approve the logo and colour scheme. Once approved, the civic body will finalise the city’s scheme, and the buses can be readied,” said the official, requesting anonymity.
Sources added that even after the logo and colour combination are cleared, it may take up to 45 days for the buses to be fully prepared for operation.
The delay has caused frustration among city officials and commuters eagerly awaiting the launch of the eco-friendly PM e-buses.
