In a major crackdown, the police exposed a racket involved in producing counterfeit products of popular consumer brands. The operation, carried out in Hingna MIDC and surrounding areas, led to the seizure of counterfeit goods worth ?1.75 crore.
According to the police, the factory was illegally manufacturing duplicates of well-known brands such as Eno, All Out, Dantkanti, Harpic, Close-Up, Sensodyne and many others. Acting on reliable information, the crime branch conducted raids at three locations, including Mumbai and Vikas Metal Industries in Hingna.
Authorities revealed that large-scale packaging, branding, and storage of these fake items were being carried out to mislead consumers and harm original manufacturers. The seized stock included raw materials, finished counterfeit products, and packaging machinery.
The factory produced look-alike products using cheap and harmful ingredients, which were then packed in boxes and wrappers resembling the original brands. These items were later supplied to rural markets, small shops, and unregulated vendors to avoid easy detection.
Police Action
The raid was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials with support from the Local Crime Branch (LCB). Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections for cheating, forgery, and violating consumer protection laws. Further investigation is underway to identify the supply chain and other markets where the fake products were circulated.
Officials confirmed that stringent action will be taken against the culprits, and raids will continue to curb such illegal activities that endanger public health and cause economic losses to genuine companies.
