Visitors planning a trip to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve will now have to shell out more money for tiger safaris. The forest department has announced a hike in safari fees, effective from October 1, when the park reopens after the monsoon break.
Under the revised rates, visitors will now have to pay significantly more for the popular tiger safari. For the core zone, the total charge for a single gypsy ride on Saturdays and Sundays has increased from ₹11,800 to ₹12,800, while weekday safaris (Monday to Friday) will now cost ₹8,800 instead of ₹7,800. Similarly, in the buffer zone, weekday rates have gone up from ₹5,000 to ₹6,000, and weekend rates from ₹6,000 to ₹7,000.
The nearly ₹1,000 hike in core zone weekend safaris has sparked criticism from several quarters. Congress MP Pratibha Dhanorkar has strongly opposed the decision, terming it unfair to tourists and locals. She has demanded an immediate rollback of the new rates, warning of a protest if the administration fails to reconsider the fee hike.
Revised Safari Fee (per gypsy, one trip)
Zone Days New Fee Old Fee
Core Monday–Friday ₹8,800 ₹7,800
Core Saturday–Sunday ₹12,800 ₹11,800
Buffer Monday–Friday ₹6,000 ₹5,000
Buffer Saturday–Sunday ₹7,000 ₹6,000
The Tadoba administration has yet to respond to the growing demand for a rollback. Meanwhile, nature enthusiasts and safari operators fear that the increased cost may impact tourism footfall as the new season begins.
