A case of cheque fraud amounting to ₹7,22,636 has come to light in the Sadar police station area. The incident occurred when a person allegedly changed the name on deposited cheques and transferred the money into his own account.
According to reports, the victims — Ram Govindram Badhvani (56) and Mayur Musurlor Badhvani (35), residents of Jaripatka — had accounts at Punjab National Bank’s Akashwani branch. Between July 3 and July 8, 2025, Ram’s staff deposited three cheques worth a total of ₹4,09,500 in the bank’s drop box.
Similarly, Mayur’s staff deposited another cheque worth ₹3,13,136 in the same drop box. However, instead of being credited to their accounts, all four cheques were allegedly tampered with. The accused removed the original names and replaced them with the name of “Harsh Sharma,” later depositing the total ₹7,22,636 into his own account at IDFC First Bank, Itwari branch.
When the amount was not credited, Ram and Mayur contacted bank officials and discovered the fraud. Following a complaint by bank manager Abhishek Mahendrasingh Gulia (39), police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
