Barely weeks after a fatal collision involving a school van and a bus on the Mankapur Stadium–Fars flyover ramp, another safety concern has surfaced on the opposite ramp leading towards Kasturchand Park. The absence of basic warning signs and reflective indicators at the end of the divider has created a new hazard for motorists.
During the earlier mishap, which claimed two lives, delayed repair work was cited as a major factor. Authorities had then rushed to complete pending works on that stretch. However, the Kasturchand Park ramp remains without retro-reflective boards or sign indicators, making the divider almost invisible to drivers at night. Road safety experts warn that such negligence could trigger another serious accident.
The flyover, constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) through contractor KCC, was already delayed in completion. Now, its maintenance is also under question. Both ends of the structure lack the mandatory safety signage, while the road beneath near NADT is riddled with deep potholes, forcing risky maneuvers by motorists.
Further down, between Pagalkhana Chowk and Chhaoni Chowk, chamber covers and adjoining surfaces have sunk, creating dangerous cavities. These turn into hidden traps during rains when water fills them. Despite repeated reminders, repairs are yet to be carried out.
The flyover and connecting roads have since been handed over to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Until reflective warning boards, fencing, and pothole repairs are completed, commuters remain exposed to preventable risks on one of Nagpur’s busiest flyovers.
