The Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in Nagpur is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of Wildlife Week from October 2 to October 8, following directives from the Central Zoological Authority. The programme has been designed to spread awareness about wildlife conservation through engaging and interactive activities for all age groups.
The celebrations will open on October 2 with an inauguration ceremony, a cleanliness drive, and a photography contest based on the theme “Wildlife of Gorewada Zoo.”
Throughout the week, visitors can look forward to wildlife awareness sessions, rabies and cattle vaccination drives, drawing and rangoli competitions, as well as nature-focused activities like a butterfly walk and birdwatching trails. A unique highlight will be the “Zoo-keeper for a Day” experience, specially curated for children.
In addition, outreach programmes in nearby schools and a plantation drive have also been planned. Prizes worth up to ₹11,000 will be awarded to winners across various contests, while every participant will receive a certificate of appreciation.
The week-long celebrations will culminate on October 8 with a valedictory ceremony and prize distribution, marking the successful conclusion of the initiative.
