Tension gripped Mayo Hospital hostel on Thursday night after a man allegedly behaved indecently with a female doctor, leading to his thrashing by fellow medicos and subsequent arrest by the police.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Ubed Beg Issac (28), a resident of Ganjakhet Chowk, had been loitering near the hostel when two 28-year-old doctors, returning from dinner, noticed him staring at them while seated on a two-wheeler. When confronted, Issac initially left the spot but later followed the women into the hostel premises and knocked on one of their doors.
A friend of the doctor raised an alarm, prompting several doctors to rush to the scene. Issac attempted to flee but was caught and beaten by the group before the Tehsil police arrived.
Police registered a case against him and took him into custody. He was produced before the court on Friday afternoon.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and medical staff over the safety of doctors staying in hostel premises, urging authorities to tighten campus security.
