Taking a major step towards women police welfare, Nagpur Police have launched a special daycare facility named ‘Chimnighar’ for children of women officers and constables. The centre was inaugurated at Police Headquarters on October 4 by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal, who conceptualised the initiative.
Women police officials often face difficulties in managing household responsibilities alongside demanding duties, especially when it comes to caring for young children. Recognising these challenges, Dr. Singal proposed the idea of a daycare centre exclusively for police personnel. The facility will provide a safe and supportive environment for children while their mothers remain on duty.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Singal said,
“Nagpur’s women police officers work with full dedication, but childcare responsibilities bring daily challenges. ‘Chimnighar’ is a relief designed for them, ensuring their children are well cared for while they serve the public. This initiative should inspire other police units across Maharashtra and the country.”
The daycare is designed with modern amenities, trained caretakers, and strict focus on hygiene and safety. Symbolically named ‘Chimnighar’ (birdhouse), it reflects the idea of nurturing children with love and security.
The launch event witnessed the presence of 80 women constables, 4 women officers, and 60 children, along with senior police officials. Deputy Commissioner Mehak Swami and Joint Commissioner Naveenchandra Reddy also underlined the importance of the initiative. Several women personnel shared how the daycare will ease their work-life balance.
The programme was attended by Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi (Crime), DCPs, and other senior officers. It was coordinated by the Nagpur Police PRO team.
With ‘Chimnighar’, Nagpur Police have set a benchmark in providing welfare facilities to women personnel, ensuring that their commitment to duty goes hand-in-hand with family care.
