In a major development, Additional Sessions Judge A.V. Dhuldhule has noted that Dr. Sameer Paltewar and 13 others, including his wife Sonali Paltewar, allegedly created shell companies to divert funds from Meditrina Hospital. On Saturday, the court dismissed the ad-interim bail applications filed by Dr. Paltewar and the co-accused.
According to the court’s observations, large sums of money were allegedly transferred from the accounts of Meditrina Institute of Medical Sciences Pvt. Ltd. (VRG Health Care Pvt. Ltd.), which operates Meditrina Hospital, to Obviate Health Care Pvt. Ltd. and several other associated entities. These firms—reportedly floated by Dr. Sameer Paltewar and his associates—shared the same registered address as Meditrina Institute, raising strong suspicion that they were shell companies created to divert hospital funds.
The court further stated that such an offence could not have been executed without coordinated involvement among the accused and their co-conspirators. It also noted that seals and stamps of these shell companies were allegedly used in carrying out the transactions. “The investigation is at a preliminary stage, and custodial interrogation of the accused may be necessary to uncover the modus operandi and extent of the crime. Under these circumstances, granting bail at this stage would not be appropriate,” the order said.
Earlier, on September 23, 2025, the court had also rejected the ad-interim pre-arrest bail applications of 13 of the accused.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), through Sitabuldi Police, registered its fifth FIR against Dr. Paltewar, his wife Sonali, and 16 others on September 17, 2025, following a fresh complaint by Meditrina Hospital co-founder Ganesh Chakkarwar. The complaint alleged massive financial irregularities and the diversion of ₹16.83 crore between 2020 and 2024 through fake consultancy and marketing bills.
Meanwhile, Meditrina Hospital continues to face scrutiny from various regulatory bodies. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has reported multiple rule violations, the Fire Department has declared the premises unsafe due to inadequate fire safety systems, and the Health Department has initiated action to revoke the hospital’s IPD license.
