The much-awaited six-lane flyover and connecting service road from Chinchbhuvan to Khapri, part of the Butibori–Nagpur six-lane highway project, has once again hit a roadblock. Although the project was officially announced several years ago, only partial work has been completed so far.
Work on the Chinchbhuvan flyover, Khapri flyover, and connecting service road has slowed significantly due to administrative hurdles and banking delays from the contractor companies. This has caused major inconvenience for daily commuters and local residents.
According to reports, the 7.7 km stretch of the Butibori–Nagpur route includes a 2.7 km flyover (from Chinchbhuvan to the Airport T-Point at Pandri) and a 3 km six-lane road from Khapri to Pandri. The total project cost is estimated at ₹332 crore.
In 2021, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced this major infrastructure plan to ease traffic congestion between Butibori and central Nagpur. Following that, the Metro bridge, flyovers, and road expansion work were initiated. However, due to incomplete documentation and pending approvals from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), the Chinchbhuvan–Khapri section has been stalled.
Officials have stated that the tender process was completed, but work could not start as the contractor’s banking procedures were not finalized. Sources indicate that the issue may be resolved soon, and work on the Chinchbhuvan–Khapri flyover and the adjoining road expansion could resume by the end of this month.
Key Points:
Total stretch: 7.7 km (including service road and two flyovers)
Flyover length: 2.7 km (Chinchbhuvan to Airport–Pandri route)
Road length: 3 km six-lane (Khapri to Pandri)
Project cost: ₹332 crore
Delay cause: Contractor’s banking clearance and administrative bottlenecks
The delay has caused major inconvenience for motorists and daily commuters, who face heavy traffic congestion near Chinchbhuvan Chowk and Khapri every day. Citizens have demanded that the project be expedited to ensure smooth connectivity and relieve traffic pressure on the southern entry point of Nagpur.
