Warns of road protest if NMC fails to deliver possession within 48 hours
Tension flared at the Mahal B-Park redevelopment site on Monday when MLA Pravin Datke led an angry protest against the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) over the delay in handing over newly constructed shops to original owners who had surrendered their properties for the project.
The shopowners alleged that despite construction being nearly complete, the civic body has failed to deliver possession, leaving them without their livelihoods. “People gave their shops and land in good faith. The project is done, yet the owners are left waiting. If this injustice continues, we’ll protest on the road right here,” Datke said while addressing the crowd.
Datke, accompanied by corporators and traders, stormed the site and forced a halt to ongoing work. Senior NMC officials, including Executive Engineer, rushed to the location to control the situation and assured that shop allotment would begin soon.
The Mahal B-Park project, located near Budhwar Bazaar, is a civic redevelopment under the PPP model. Around 70 shopowners had given up their old commercial units in exchange for new ones.
Datke has demanded a general meeting with the civic commissioner and project officials within 48 hours, warning of a sit-in protest if deadlines aren’t fixed.
