The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a free Drone Service Technician training programme for women from low-income families, aiming to prepare them for jobs in the fast-growing drone and e-mobility sectors.
Under the Social Development Department, the first batch will train 30 women under the Electronics Sector’s E-Mobility and Battery division, following the Electronics Sector Skill Council of India (ESSCI) curriculum. Trainees will learn drone assembly, repair, battery handling, and field operations, skills in demand across logistics, agriculture, and surveillance industries.
Open to women aged 18 to 45 years within city limits, the 220-hour course will include classroom lessons, soft skills, industrial visits, and on-the-job training (OJT). Biometric attendance will be compulsory, and training centers will provide facilities like clean water, sanitation, and access for the differently abled.
“This programme gives women a fair chance to step into future-ready careers,” said Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ranjana Lade.
“We want to go beyond training and ensure they achieve real employment and self-reliance,” she added.
Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) will handle evaluation and certification, ensuring national recognition.
The civic body will also hold mobilization camps to help women register and connect with placement opportunities. Completely free of cost, the initiative reflects NMC’s commitment to linking women’s empowerment with technology and employment.
