Nagpur: In a major success against illegal arms possession, Wadi Police in Nagpur arrested two youths and seized two foreign-made revolvers and five live cartridges worth ₹1.52 lakh from their possession. The arrests were made following a swift action based on a tip-off received by constable Ajay Patil of the Hingna police station.
The arrested accused have been identified as Alkesh Pramod Gajbhiye (21), resident of Dhamna, Ward No. 3, Nagpur, and Piyush Marotrao Malwande (29), resident of Plot No. 34, Juni Shukrawari, Nagpur.
According to police sources, a team led by Senior Inspector Rajesh Tatkare acted on the intelligence input and detained Gajbhiye from the Hingna area. A black and silver revolver with magazine, five live cartridges (KF 7.65 mm), and a Vivo mobile phone were recovered from him. The total worth of seized material from his possession is estimated at ₹82,500.
During interrogation, Gajbhiye revealed that he had purchased two revolvers and five cartridges from one of his friends, Sameer Sheikh alias Yeda, a resident of Yashodhanagar, a few months ago for his personal interest. He also confessed to having handed over one revolver to his jailmate, accused Piyush Malwande.
Subsequently, the police traced Malwande through technical surveillance and conducted a raid at his residence. A silver-coloured revolver with a magazine, engraved with a bird symbol and “MADE IN JAPAN” markings, was recovered from him. The weapon, estimated to be worth ₹70,000, was seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
A total of two revolvers, five cartridges, and a mobile phone collectively valued at ₹1,52,500 were confiscated during the operation.
A case has been registered under Sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act, read with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, at the Hingna Police Station.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (South Region) Shivaji Rathod, DCP (Zone I) S Rushikesh Reddy, and ACP (MIDC Division) Satish Gurav.
