India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his remarkable form in red-ball cricket, notching up yet another century during the second and final Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
After captain Shubman Gill opted to bat first upon winning the toss, India dominated the visiting attack throughout the day, losing just one wicket by Tea. Jaiswal led the charge with a commanding hundred, further cementing his status as one of India’s most promising openers.
Jaiswal Equals Graeme Smith’s Record
With this latest ton, the 23-year-old left-hander has reached a major milestone — scoring his seventh Test century, all as an opener. This achievement puts him on par with South Africa’s Graeme Smith, making the duo the only openers in world cricket to have scored seven Test centuries before turning 24.
Openers with Most Test Centuries Before Turning 24:
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) – 7
- Graeme Smith (South Africa) – 7
- Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies) – 5
- Alastair Cook (England) – 5
- Len Hutton (England) – 5
Youngest Indian Opener to Reach the Landmark
Jaiswal has now become the first Indian opener to record seven Test hundreds before the age of 24, joining Sachin Tendulkar as only the second Indian batter overall to achieve this feat. Tendulkar had scored 11 centuries before turning 24.
Jaiswal’s WTC Feat Surpasses Rohit Sharma
The milestone also places Jaiswal among elite company in the World Test Championship (WTC) era. He is now the second opener in history, after Rohit Sharma, to score seven or more hundreds in WTC matches. Rohit leads the list with nine centuries.
Moreover, Jaiswal has overtaken Rohit Sharma’s record to become the first Indian opener in this decade (2020–2025) to hit seven Test centuries, surpassing Rohit’s tally of six during the same period.
As the Delhi crowd celebrated his latest milestone, Jaiswal’s composed yet aggressive knock once again showcased the blend of maturity and flair that has defined his rise in international cricket. With age on his side, the young opener appears poised to rewrite many more records in the years ahead.
