The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will undertake a large-scale collection drive for household scrap and reusable waste during the upcoming Swachh Deepawali Abhiyan, starting from October 12. The initiative aims to promote cleanliness and recycling in the city ahead of Diwali celebrations.
After collecting reusable items, NMC will facilitate their acceptance and recycling through authorized centres. Officials have instructed each of the 10 zonal offices to prepare plans to ensure maximum participation from citizens.
Under the campaign, 102 locations across all 10 zones have been identified for setting up “Swachhata–Seva Kendra” stalls. These centres will accept reusable or recyclable materials such as plastic, paper, electronic waste, glass, tin, wood, iron, and batteries from households.
The civic body has also planned to provide vehicles for transporting large items and ensure special arrangements for e-waste collection. The NMC has appealed to residents to contribute to a cleaner Diwali by responsibly disposing of their household waste and participating actively in the cleanliness campaign.
