Nagpur: In a major crackdown under Operation Shakti, the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Nagpur Police busted a sex racket operating from Sher-e-Punjab Restaurant and Lodging on Bhandara Road, Pardi, on Friday evening. The raid, conducted between 4:30 pm and 9:00 pm on October 10, 2025, was part of the city police’s ongoing drive to curb human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team led by Police Inspector Sandeep Buwa raided the premises and found that women were being lured into prostitution with promises of quick financial gains. During the operation, one woman was rescued while four persons were arrested for allegedly running the racket.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sameeksha Sanjay Shende (38) of Air Force Nagar, Hazari Pahad; Manjeet Ajitsingh Bhatia (60) of Deshpande Layout, Vardhaman Nagar; Suredarsing Jaswantsing Bhatia (72) of Sher-e-Punjab Hotel, originally from Jalandhar, Punjab; and Shailendra Govindsing Shengar (37) of Gangabag, Pardi, originally from Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh.
A total of ₹66,310 worth of material was seized from the spot, including four mobile phones worth ₹40,000, ₹2,500 used in the decoy operation, ₹22,515 recovered during the raid, a DVR worth ₹3,000, a register worth ₹500, and 85 assorted condom packets along with one used condom. Police Constable Rupesh Nanawatkar (Buckle No. 4965) from Crime Branch Unit 5 lodged a complaint following the raid.
The accused have been booked under Sections 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. After their medical examination, the accused and the rescued woman were handed over to Pardi Police Station for further investigation.
Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has reiterated that the Nagpur Police are determined to eliminate human trafficking and related crimes from the city under the ongoing Operation Shakti initiative.
