Nagpur: In a remarkable celebration of World Egg Day, the Department of Poultry Science at Nagpur Veterinary College, under the Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (MAFSU), created a world record by preparing egg bhurji using 5,001 eggs. The feat was achieved in collaboration with celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar to highlight the nutritional importance of eggs in a healthy diet.
The massive cooking event began early Sunday morning at 5:30 a.m. on the college premises and culminated around 9 a.m., when the record was officially set. The bhurji preparation, done in a single attempt, was documented on camera and verified by representatives from the World Records Book of India. After confirming the count, a certificate signed by Chief Editor Sushma Narvekar was awarded at the venue.
Following the record-making achievement, dignitaries and citizens enjoyed the freshly prepared egg bhurji served with pav. The eggs were provided by Yojana Poultry, Pune, under the brand Power Egg, while Sai Caterers, Nagpur, arranged the pav. Mahachay Pvt. Ltd. served tea to the attendees.
The event drew a large crowd, including women and children, who enthusiastically participated in the celebration. Prominent guests such as Minister of State Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal, MAFSU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niteen Patil, Venky’s India GM Dr. Vijay Tijare, Director of Education and Dean Dr. Shirish V. Upadhye, and Director of Extension Education Dr. S. W. Bonde witnessed the record-setting moment.
The event was organised by Dr. Jayant Korde, Associate Dean of Nagpur Veterinary College, with Dr. Mukund Kadam, Professor and Head of the Department of Poultry Science, serving as the coordinator. The initiative aimed to promote awareness about the health benefits of eggs — a powerhouse of protein, vitamins, and essential nutrients vital for overall growth and well-being.
