In an effort to curb crimes that typically occur during late-night hours, Nagpur Police have launched a special month-long initiative called Mission Night Watch. The operation began under the leadership of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal with the objective of strengthening night patrolling and ensuring citizens’ safety across all areas of the city.
Since the campaign began, police teams have been conducting intensified night patrols, surprise checks, and coordinated actions at hotels, lodges, and bars. This consistent vigilance has led to a remarkable 75% drop in burglary cases reported in the last month. The campaign has received positive feedback from residents who have noticed a visible improvement in night security.
During the operation, 217 establishments — including bars, lodges, and hotels — were raided for violating operational rules, security guidelines, or license conditions. Officials said that this initiative not only targeted unregulated late-night activities but also helped in tracing wanted criminals and monitoring habitual offenders.
Senior officers and zone-level police teams have been assigned specific night duties, ensuring patrol coverage from 10 PM to 5 AM. The schedule includes surprise inspections, vehicle checks, and active presence in vulnerable areas. The police commissionerate has expressed satisfaction over the early results, calling Mission Night Watch an innovative and disciplined approach to building a safer Nagpur.
