As the Diwali travel rush peaks, passengers commuting from Pune and Mumbai to Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Konkan are reeling under steep fare hikes, with private bus operators reportedly increasing ticket prices by up to 1.5 times. With train reservations fully booked, many travelers are left with no option but to pay inflated fares.
Frustrated commuters have questioned whether such hikes serve passengers’ interests or those of private operators. “This price increase has been imposed only for Diwali without any clear justification,” said one traveler. “It feels like an attempt to exploit people’s festive travel needs.”
In response to growing complaints, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has launched a dedicated helpline to report overcharging by private bus operators. Passengers can lodge complaints by calling 8275330101 or emailing [email protected]. While filing a complaint, travelers are required to share their name, mobile number, and a photo of the ticket as proof.
The RTO has assured strict action against operators found guilty of overcharging. Authorities have also urged passengers to report such violations without hesitation to help ensure fair and transparent travel practices during the festive season.
