A 28-year-old sand trader from Neri village in Kamptee taluka was brutally murdered by three men over an old rivalry late on Tuesday night. The incident took place between 7:30 pm on October 15 and 1:50 am on October 16 near a brick kiln close to Neri sand ghat under the jurisdiction of New Kamptee Police Station.
The deceased, identified as Vivek Ramesh Tandekar, was fatally attacked on the head with a sharp weapon, resulting in his death on the spot. Preliminary investigations revealed that the murder stemmed from a dispute that occurred around 20 days ago between Vivek and Devidas Wadibhasme, who had allegedly abused Vivek’s uncle and aunt. The matter had already reached the court, and tensions between the two sides had remained unresolved.
Following the incident, Vivek’s younger brother Abhishek Tandekar (26) lodged a complaint at New Kamptee Police Station. Acting on the complaint, PSI Tidke (9637402411) registered an offence under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unidentified accused.
Taking prompt action, the police launched an intensive manhunt and managed to trace and arrest three suspects identified as Devidas alias Deva Barsuji Wanjari (42), Keshav Sukhlal Giri (33), and Sahil Pramod Ghatole (19) — all residents of Neri, Kamptee. The accused were taken into custody for further questioning.
Police suspect that the attack was premeditated and executed as revenge for the previous altercation. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
