Nagpur: Panic gripped the police quarters at Takli Police Headquarters on Monday evening after a fire erupted in the residence of a traffic branch constable and spread to adjoining houses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

According to reports, the blaze originated from Quarter No. 286, occupied by Constable Ashok T. Aatram, who is attached to the Traffic Branch. At the time, families in the building were busy preparing Diwali faral and drawing rangoli when smoke and flames were noticed coming from Aatram’s house.
Hearing about the incident, several police personnel rushed home, while fire tenders were immediately deployed to the spot. Quick action by the fire brigade and residents prevented the flames from engulfing the entire building.

Household articles including a cooler, gas cylinder, sewing machine, sofa, TV set, divan mattress, and electrical wiring were completely gutted in the fire, resulting in an estimated loss of around ₹1.5 lakh.
The fire also spread to two nearby quarters — Quarter No. 291, belonging to Dharmendra Mishra, and Quarter No. 290, occupied by Mangesh Borkute.
In Mishra’s house, a sofa set, mattresses, and two pet lovebirds were destroyed, causing damage worth approximately ₹20,000. In Borkute’s house, items including 15 pairs of shoes, a table, a drum, bedding, and dumbbells worth nearly ₹25,000 were damaged.
Thanks to timely intervention, the fire was contained before it could cause major structural damage to the quarters. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
