The Ramjhula Bridge, already notorious for a string of hit-and-run incidents, witnessed yet another tragic accident late Monday night. A 33-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Rahul Prakash Gurupanch, a resident of Shantinagar, VHP Colony, lost his life after being hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 12:15 a.m. when Rahul was riding his moped across Ramjhula. A fast-moving vehicle struck his two-wheeler from behind and sped away. The impact threw Rahul off the bike, leaving him severely injured.
Locals and passersby rushed to his aid and transported him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. The driver fled the scene before anyone could record the vehicle’s number.
The Tehsil Police Station has registered a case against the unknown driver based on a complaint filed by Rahul’s brother, Ashish Gurupanch. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the Ramjhula area to trace the vehicle involved.
Rahul’s death has once again highlighted the urgent need for speed control measures and improved surveillance on the busy bridge, which has seen multiple fatal hit-and-run cases in recent months. Residents have renewed calls for the installation of speed cameras and enhanced night patrolling to prevent further tragedies.
The Shantinagar community remains in shock, mourning the untimely loss of yet another young life to reckless driving.
