In a notable development ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA) elections, Adv. Prashant Deshpande, a prominent legal professional from Amravati, has been elected unopposed as one of the four vice presidents of the Association.
According to official sources, Monday was the final day for the withdrawal of nominations. Adv. Deshpande, who had filed his nomination for the vice president’s post, emerged as the sole candidate, leading to his unopposed election. His victory has been hailed as a moment of pride for Amravati and the Vidarbha sporting community.
Alongside Adv. Deshpande, Adil Sumariwala, Pradeep Gandhe, and Dayanand Kumar have also been elected as vice presidents. Although the election is conducted on a statewide basis, it is noteworthy that these three leaders hail from western Maharashtra, a region known for its rich sporting heritage.
The Maharashtra Olympic Association elections, scheduled for November 2, will determine the leadership for the next five-year term. While Adv. Deshpande’s unopposed election has been widely welcomed, attention now turns to the high-stakes presidential race, which is expected to feature a direct contest between Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol—both regarded as formidable contenders with strong political and sporting influence.
