A massive fire broke out at the Reliance Smart Store located at Aath Rasta Square late Tuesday night, October 21, amid Diwali celebrations.
According to police sources, the incident occurred when locals were bursting firecrackers in the vicinity. It is suspected that one of the crackers accidentally entered the store premises, triggering the blaze. The store had been closed earlier in the evening for the Diwali festival.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. However, goods worth several lakh rupees were reportedly destroyed in the fire.
Upon receiving information, teams from the Fire and Emergency Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) rushed to the spot. Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent shops and buildings.
Fire brigade teams from multiple stations reached the site within minutes and launched a strenuous operation to douse the flames.
Traffic around Aath Rasta Chowk was temporarily halted as rescue operations continued. Police and civic officials were also present on site to assist with crowd control and assess damage.
The incident has once again raised questions about the unregulated use of fireworks in crowded commercial zones during festive seasons.
The exact cause and the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained. Further investigation is underway.
