Nagpur: Anticipating a surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has stepped up ticketing facilities and crowd control measures at Nagpur Railway Stationto ensure smoother travel for commuters.
To ease congestion and improve convenience, the division has installed six new Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) — three on the west side and three on the east side of the station. These machines allow passengers to quickly purchase unreserved tickets without waiting in long queues, the Nagpur Division said in a press release.
The move follows a recent report highlighting the reduced counter service on the east side of the station, where one of the two reservation counters had its operating hours limited after noon to issue only current or unreserved tickets.
In addition to the ATVMs, the Central Railway has also made available six Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (M-UTS) counters, with four located on the west side and two on the east side, enabling passengers to obtain digital, paperless tickets instantly.
For those preferring manual ticketing, nine Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters have been set up — five on the west and three on the east, along with one additional counter. This extra counter serves as a ‘Tatkal’ counterduring urgent booking hours and functions as a regular UTS counter afterward.
Moreover, to facilitate reservation and cancellation services, seven Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters are currently operational at the station.
The Central Railway said these measures aim to streamline ticketing operations, reduce passenger waiting time, and manage the festive rush effectively, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience for thousands of passengers using Nagpur Station during the festive season.
