For the first time, devotees in the Nagpur–Butibori belt will have a dedicated permanent ghat to celebrate Chhath Puja, as the Butibori Municipal Council (BMC) has sanctioned the construction of a riverside structure on the Vena River at Mouza Rangapar. The project — the first of its kind in the entire NMC–NMRDA region — will cost around ₹10 lakh and include concrete steps and 10 feet of reinforced railings to ensure safe worship.
Until now, the festival was confined to Ambazari Lake, where nearly 50,000 devotees gathered last year and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) managed massive arrangements. The new Vena ghat will ease crowd pressure and bring celebrations closer to Butibori and nearby industrial zones.
Calling the decision “historic,” Umakant Agnihotri, national executive president of the Uttar Bhartiya Sabha, said, “The growing Uttar Bhartiya population in Nagpur has made Chhath one of the city’s grandest festivals. The Municipal Council’s effort to create a permanent facility deserves appreciation.”
With Chhath Puja 2025 set from October 25 to 28, the new ghat is expected to be ready in time — offering devotees a safe, permanent, and symbolic space to greet the rising sun on the Vena’s banks.
