Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has set November 30, 2025, as the final deadline for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, to upgrade their number plates to High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). Authorities have cautioned vehicle owners that failure to comply with the directive could invite penalties or lead to the denial of certain vehicle-related services.
As per the state transport department’s order, all vehicles—private and commercial—registered prior to April 2019 must replace their existing registration plates with HSRP-compliant ones before the stipulated date. Officials have warned that enforcement drives will begin soon after the deadline expires.
The move aims to enhance vehicle identification, curb thefts, and streamline the tracking of vehicles across the state. The tamper-proof plates, equipped with a unique laser-engraved code and non-removable snap lock, have been made mandatory across India in recent years to ensure uniformity and improve road safety measures.
Transport authorities have urged vehicle owners to complete the installation process well before the cut-off date to avoid last-minute congestion and potential penalties.
