Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari on Friday visited Nelco Society to review various civic issues raised by the residents. The inspection followed a memorandum submitted by the Nelco Society Citizens’ Committee highlighting long-pending infrastructural and sanitation concerns.
During the visit, Dr. Chaudhari interacted with committee members and inspected the internal roads, drainage lines, and open spaces. Senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Milind Meshram, Deputy Director (Town Planning) Girish Godbole, Executive Engineers Ravindra Bundhade, Ashish Talewar, Rajendra Rathod, and Zonal Sanitation Officer Rishikesh Ingle from Laxminagar zone were also present.
Residents had demanded cementing and asphalting of internal roads, construction of paver blocks on footpaths, and proper drainage near Viveka Hospital to prevent recurring waterlogging. The committee also urged that the reserved land for a library and primary school within the society layout be converted into a children’s playground, citing the lack of recreational space in the area.
After inspecting the sites, Dr. Chaudhari directed officials to resolve these civic issues on priority. He assured residents that their proposal regarding reservation change would be processed if formally submitted to NMC.
Adding a light moment to the visit, Dr. Chaudhari joined local children in a friendly cricket match underway on the society’s ground. At the insistence of the residents, he picked up the bat and hit a delivery bowled by young cricketer Pramod Tabhane, much to the delight of the children and residents present.
The Commissioner’s visit not only brought administrative attention to the society’s civic concerns but also added a personal touch — earning smiles from the city’s youngest citizens.
