Several CBSE-affiliated schools in Nagpur district have reportedly flouted official directives by reopening before the end of the extended Diwali and Christmas vacations. The move has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among teachers, students, and school staff.
The early reopening has raised serious concerns about the District Education Department’s commitment to enforcing its own orders and taking disciplinary action against non-compliant institutions. With clear instructions already in place, stakeholders are now watching closely to see whether authorities will act or allow these violations to go unchecked.
Education Department Under Scrutiny
According to a circular issued by Education Officer (Secondary) Gautam Gedam on October 17, 2025, all CBSE, other board, and privately managed secondary schools in the district were directed to strictly observe Diwali holidays from October 18 to November 1, 2025, and Christmas holidays from December 22 to 25, 2025.
The circular clearly warned that any school resuming classes before the prescribed period would be considered in violation of the rules and subject to administrative action. However, several schools have reportedly resumed classes as early as October 27, 28, or 29, raising questions about whether the department will uphold its own directive or let it remain only on paper.
Teachers’ Association Voices Concern
The CBSE School Staff Welfare Association (SISWA) has strongly opposed the premature reopening. Association president Deepali Dabli emphasized that festival holidays are essential for the mental and physical well-being of teachers and staff. SISWA has submitted a memorandum to the Education Officer, demanding that all schools follow uniform holiday schedules to relieve teachers and students from undue pressure.
As the controversy unfolds, all eyes remain on the district education authorities — whose next move will determine whether their circular holds true authority or is reduced to a mere formality.
