As part of Nagpur’s ongoing beautification efforts, the stretch between Jhansi Rani Chowk and Ambazari Lake (North Ambazari Road) will soon be developed as a ‘Healthy Street’ under the Healthy Streets Neighborhood Network Project, recently approved by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The 11-kilometre corridor will be redeveloped to make it smoother, safer, and more eco-friendly.
The project covers eight roads with widths ranging from 18 to 30 meters, including a 9.5 km main corridor from Jhansi Rani Square to Ambazari Lake. Additional link roads — West and East High Court Road, Traffic Park Street, Mata Mandir Street, and Gangadharrao Fadnavis Road — will add another 1.5 km to the network.
Under the plan, the entire road will be reconstructed with upgrades such as a new surface, redesigned intersections, and organized traffic lanes. It will also feature wide, continuous footpaths, dedicated bicycle tracks, structured parking spaces, and an improved drainage system. Major junctions like Shankarnagar Square, Bajajnagar Square, and Ramnagar Square will be redesigned to improve pedestrian safety.
Why It’s Called a ‘Healthy Street’
The initiative is called a ‘Healthy Street’ because it prioritizes health, accessibility, and convenience over vehicle speed. The design promotes walking and cycling, with green footpaths, tree-lined stretches, rainwater harvesting systems, and adequate street lighting to create a safe, pleasant, and sustainable urban experience.
