A picnic outing turned tragic after a 48-year-old man was brutally murdered following an altercation over a minor car accident in Kapilnagar area on Friday night. The Kapilnagar police have registered a case of murder against eight accused in the incident.
According to police, the complainant Pintu Suresh Rajput (32), a resident of Nari Basti near Ganesh Mandir, had gone on a picnic to Mansar with his friends on October 25. After returning to Nagpur around 9.30 pm, Rajput dropped two of his friends near Takshashila Ghat and continued home with his friend Rajesh Ishwas Orekar (48).
While passing through MHADA Colony near Building No. 10, Rajput’s car accidentally hit an e-rickshaw parked near a water tank, causing minor damage. A heated argument broke out between Rajput and the e-rickshaw owner. During the scuffle, a group of eight men identified as Harshal, Tabba, Lucky, Rabha, and four others arrived at the spot and began assaulting Rajput and his friend Orekar.
In an attempt to escape, Orekar ran towards a nearby lane, but the accused chased and attacked him with a knife, inflicting multiple injuries. Locals rushed the victim to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Based on Rajput’s complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 103(1), 189(2), 190, 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 135, 37(1)(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Police have initiated an investigation and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
