The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has made extensive preparations for Chhath Puja, the major festival of the North Indian community, celebrated with devotion and large public gatherings. To facilitate smooth and safe observance, arrangements have been made at Ambazari Lake, Futala Lake, Police Line Takli, and Gorewada Lake, where thousands of devotees will gather to offer prayers to the Sun God.

On Monday, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Solid Waste Management Rajesh Bhagat inspected preparations at Futala Lake, accompanied by Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle and civic staff. The arrangements are being carried out under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari and Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, ensuring all facilities are ready for devotees.

Special emphasis has been laid on cleanliness and safety at Ambazari and Futala Lakes — the two main venues for Chhath Puja. The NMC has completed thorough cleaning drives, installed wooden railings near the lakes to prevent accidents, and improved approach roads for smoother movement of devotees.
Other facilities include lighting, sound systems, drinking water, barricading, and temporary platforms for performing rituals. Separate changing rooms for women have been set up along the lake banks, while extra sanitation workers have been deployed to maintain hygiene throughout the celebrations.

Appealing to citizens to celebrate responsibly, NMC has urged devotees not to immerse “Nirmalya” (floral offerings) or other materials in the lakes to prevent water pollution. Designated collection points have been created for proper disposal.
Through these arrangements, the NMC aims to ensure that Chhath Puja is celebrated peacefully, safely, and in an environmentally friendly manner.
