Nagpur: In a late-night rescue operation, the District Child Protection Cell in Nagpur saved three minor children—two girls aged 11 and 7, and a one-year-old boy—after receiving a distress call on Child Helpline 1098 alleging parental cruelty under the influence of alcohol.
Responding swiftly to the complaint, the Child Protection Team, accompanied by Kamptee Police, reached the residence around 2 am on Monday. Officials found the children living in highly unsafe and neglected conditions. The minors were immediately taken into custody and shifted to a secure shelter home.
A Child Protection Officer said the children were in an extremely vulnerable state and revealed that this was not the first complaint against the family. “Earlier, the parents had been counseled and warned. However, since they continued to ill-treat the children, legal action has now been initiated,” the officer said.
The official also urged citizens to use Childline 1098 to report such incidents, emphasizing that it is a free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress, and the caller’s identity remains confidential. “Timely reporting can save lives and safeguard the future of innocent children,” the officer added.
A case has been registered against the parents under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The rescued minors have been placed under the care of a government-run Children’s Home as per the directions of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Nagpur. An investigation into the matter is underway.
