Nagpur: Preparations for the upcoming Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature hit a roadblock on Thursday as city contractors boycotted ongoing works to protest against unpaid bills amounting to nearly ?150 crore.
The contractors gathered outside Vidhan Bhavan and demanded immediate clearance of their pending payments before resuming any development activity. They also submitted a formal letter to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Chairman of the Legislative Council through the chamber officer, urging intervention to ensure the release of funds.
Following their appeal, authorities at Vidhan Bhavan reportedly agreed to temporarily halt all ongoing work at the premises.
According to the contractors, payments for various projects under the Public Works Department (PWD) have been delayed for over a year despite repeated assurances. The agitation has already disrupted preparations at key government sites, including Ravi Bhavan, Hyderabad House, and the MLA residential complex, where work has now come to a standstill.
Leading the protest were Nagpur Contractors Association president Subodh Sarode, along with members Parag Munje, Nitin Salve, Praveen Revatkar, Rupesh Randive, Anil Ikhankar, Dinesh Mantri, Naresh Khumkar, Mahendra Vasade, Sarang Panvelkar, Vipin Bansod, Satish Nikam, Abhishek Gupta, Aniket Dangre, Rakesh Asati, Kaushik Deshmukh, and Sanjay Maind.
The contractors have warned that they will not resume work until the government clears all pending dues.
