Public Advisory Issued; Checks to Continue Across City
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Health Department has taken legal action against ‘Sport Med Joint Care Clinic’, run by Dr. Satish Sonar near Ajni Chowk, for operating without mandatory registration under the Maharashtra Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1949. The civic body has also warned citizens not to seek in-patient or surgical treatment at the clinic until it is properly registered.
The action came under the directives of NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, following orders from Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar. During inspection, health officials found that the clinic, located at Dabhade Apartment, had been admitting patients and conducting medical procedures despite lacking a valid registration certificate.
According to the Act, any hospital or clinic that admits patients for surgery or extended treatment must be registered with the local civic authority. Running such a facility without registration is a violation of state healthcare regulations and invites legal penalties.
Officials said the department received complaints that Dr. Sonar was admitting patients and performing treatments without authorization. A verification team visited the site and confirmed the allegations, following which NMC issued a formal notice and initiated legal proceedings.
The NMC has also appealed to citizens to avoid unregistered clinics and warned that unverified facilities could pose serious risks to patients. Citywide inspections are now underway to ensure all private hospitals and nursing homes comply with registration norms.
