Nagpur’s political landscape is set for a shake-up as the much-awaited draft reservation lottery for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections will be held on Tuesday, November 11, at Suresh Bhat Auditorium. Ahead of the draw, a mock drill will be conducted today to ensure the process remains smooth and transparent.
As per the schedule, objections and suggestions on the draft reservation list can be filed till November 24, while the final reservation list will be published on December 2. The draw will decide which wards are reserved for women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and OBCs, ultimately defining the power balance for the upcoming polls.
This year, voters will elect 151 corporators across 38 wards — 37 with four members each, and one with three. In line with the 50% quota for women, 76 seats will be reserved for female candidates.
Political circles are abuzz, as former corporators and hopefuls keenly await the outcome to plan their strategies. “The reservation chart will set the tone for alliances and campaign planning,” said a senior observer.
Deputy Commissioner (Elections) Milind Meshram has instructed all officials to stay on duty without leave until preparations are complete. The ward delimitation and draft voter list are already underway at a rapid pace.
With the final reservation list due in December, Nagpur’s civic election season is officially on the horizon.
