Nagpur on Thursday witnessed one of the largest student demonstrations in recent months as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest march alleging serious irregularities and administrative lapses at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU). The march started from Ravinagar Ground and concluded at the university’s main gate, where thousands of students gathered for a strong demonstration.
Participants from Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Wardha joined the protest, led by Payal Kinake, ABVP’s Vidarbha secretary. She accused the university administration of multiple failures, including delays in the admission process, conducting exams before the completion of syllabus, lack of permanent teaching staff, appointment of unqualified temporary lecturers, long-pending staff recruitments, and poor execution of the National Education Policy (NEP). Kinake also alleged that student council elections are being deliberately withheld to prevent student representation.
ABVP leader Pranali Gomase highlighted the absence of essential amenities on campus, stating that there were no biometric attendance systems, CCTV cameras, or sanitary vending machines for female students. “The so-called ‘Smart Classrooms’ exist only in name — teaching still happens on old green boards,” she said.
University registrar Raju Hivse met the protesters, accepted their 36-point memorandum, and assured them that their demands would be placed before acting vice-chancellor Dr. Madhavi Khode. He promised that action would be taken within two to three days.
Kinake warned that failure to act within the stipulated time will compel ABVP to intensify its movement and launch larger protests across the region.
Prominent among those present were Aniket Dadande, Shivam Kale, Mosam Patle, Dipanshu Gaur, and Pranit Sadafale, who accused the university administration of consistently overlooking student concerns.
