In a major push toward creating a cleaner, safer and more aesthetically planned city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched large-scale asphalting work covering 53 kilometres of roads across various localities. The work, taken up on a war footing by the NMC Hotmix Plant Department, is targeted for completion by December 31.
Road Work Underway Across All 10 NMC Zones
Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari and Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, the upgraded Hotmix Plant is carrying out the asphalting work in a highly coordinated manner. The Hotmix Department has also been working in close coordination with the Nagpur Traffic Police to ensure smooth execution and minimize inconvenience to the public.
To prevent disruption on the routes under repair, special nuisance-detection teams have been deployed. These teams are stationed at key stretches to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety during the asphalting process.
Survey Identifies 53 km of Damaged Roads
NMC conducted a detailed survey covering 53 km of city roads, identifying multiple issues such as:
- Exposed gravel due to worn-out asphalt
- Potholes caused by uneven chambers
- Accident-prone patches where dividers were removed but not resurfaced
- Road sinking after utility line excavations
- Cracks and surface deterioration
Based on the findings, road repair work has been initiated in all 10 NMC zones. The Hotmix Plant has already completed asphalting from Ramnagar Chowk to Pandhrabodi, parts of Chhoti Dhantoli, and the stretch from Care Hospital to Kalpana Building in Ramdaspeth. Work in Manish Nagar is currently in progress.
Execution Managed Through Multiple Teams
Under the supervision of Executive Engineer Ajay Dahake, the Hingna Hotmix Plant is being operated by Deputy Engineer Prafull Asalkar and Civil Engineering Assistant Vinayak Chavan. A fleet of 8 tippers, 2 pavers and 4 rollers— including both department-owned and contractor-provided vehicles — is working continuously to meet the deadline.
Additionally, the department uses two JCB machines, two operators, assistants and labourers for on-site operations.
Two Engineering Agencies Appointed, Monitoring Squads Formed
To streamline work across the city’s 10 zones, NMC has appointed two agencies. Two separate monitoring teams of NMC engineers have also been formed:
Team 1:
- Deputy Engineer Abhijeet Bhure
- Junior Engineer Ankush Kuvar
- Site Supervisor Raju Zade
This team is responsible for work in Dhantoli, Laxminagar, Dharampeth, Mangalwari and Aasi Nagar zones.
Team 2:
- Junior Engineer Manohar Rathod
- Civil Engineering Assistant Shailesh Jambhulkar
- Site Supervisor Sanjay Bangre
They are supervising asphalting in Hanuman Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Gandhibagh, Satranjipura and Lakadganj zones.
Furthermore, data collection and documentation of completed work from the Hotmix Plant is being handled by Civil Engineering Assistant Mayawati Damke.
