The annual “Maharashtra Bird Week,” celebrated every year from the birth anniversary of renowned bird researcher Padma Shri Maroti Chitampalli to the birth anniversary of famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, was observed with great enthusiasm in Ramtek. On this occasion, a special bird-watching activity was organized for students from various schools.
In the pleasant, cool morning weather, students visited the Camp Cherry Farm area and the Khindsi backwater, observing a wide variety of birds. With the help of binoculars and telescopes, they closely studied many local as well as migratory species. The birds observed included Black Ibis, Openbill Stork, Grey Hornbill, Treepie, Paradise Flycatcher, Owl, Green Bee-eater, various types of Kingfishers, along with several waterbirds and migratory species.
The activity was conducted under the guidance of Manish Makh, Nature Experience Trainer at CAC Allrounder, with assistance from Ajay Gaikwad, Sandesh Dandekar, Tushar Kale, Ulhas Bothre, and Ankita Kumbhare. They provided students with detailed information about bird identification, calls, behavior, the importance of migration, and the ecological role of birds. Students also studied bird habitats and enjoyed a meaningful experience of connecting with nature. The initiative helped foster love for nature, awareness about conservation, and an understanding of the importance of biodiversity among students.
Special appreciation was extended to the Camp Cherry Farm family and the teaching staff of the participating schools for the successful organization of the event.
