Nagpur: Police intensified their crackdown on human trafficking with another successful action under Operation Shakti, exposing a sex racket operating in the Wathoda area. The Social Security Branch and AHTU Crime Unit carried out the raid on November 17 between 3:30 pm and 10 pm at a residential block in the Prime Minister Awas Yojana locality of Tarodi village, near Symbiosis College.
During the operation, officials discovered that the accused were allegedly enticing a woman with promises of quick earnings and pushing her into the flesh trade. A woman was rescued from the premises following the intervention.
Two individuals—Shankar Ganeshrao Wankhede (38) and Swati alias Mayuri Wankhede (34)—were taken into custody. Both are residents of Jyoti Nagar and were staying on rent at the targeted location.
Police seized materials worth ₹21,540, which included two mobile phones valued at ₹20,000, ₹1,500 suspected to be illicit transaction money, and four sealed condoms found at the site.
The accused and the rescued woman were sent for medical examination, after which they were handed over to Wathoda Police for further investigation. Authorities stated that the action reinforces the ongoing drive to dismantle trafficking networks and curb commercial sexual exploitation in the city.
