Nagpur’s stature as a Vande Bharat hub continues to grow with the Nagpur–Indore–Nagpur Vande Bharat Express (20911/20912) receiving a major capacity boost. The Western Railway’s Chief Passenger Traffic Manager (CPTM) has announced that the train will be permanently augmented from 8 coaches to 16 coaches, effective November 24. The upgrade aims to accommodate the sharp increase in passenger traffic on this high-demand semi-high-speed corridor.
Part of a Larger Expansion Push
This enhancement follows closely after the recent 16-coach extension of the Nagpur–Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express, further solidifying Nagpur’s emerging role as a key operational centre for Vande Bharat services in Central India.
At present, four Vande Bharat trains originate from Nagpur, connecting the Zero Mile City to:
- Secunderabad
- Pune
- Bilaspur
- Indore
These routes highlight Nagpur’s growing importance within India’s national railway network and its rising mobility needs driven by students, tourists, industries, and business travellers.
Passenger Relief Expected
Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) member and Rail Yatri Sangh president Braj Bhushan Shukla welcomed the augmentation, noting that consistent high occupancy warranted the upgrade.
“We had submitted a memorandum to the Central Railway General Manager and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to extend the coaches of the Indore Vande Bharat. The passenger load was consistently high, and the augmentation will bring much-needed relief,” he said.
The decision is expected to significantly improve travel comfort and availability on one of Central India’s busiest Vande Bharat routes.
