Nagpur: A picnic outing turned fatal at Khaparkheda on Saturday after a group of unidentified youths attacked two friends with stones and knives, killing one and seriously injuring the other near Bina Sangam.
Complainant Sushilkumar Motiram Gedam (33), a resident of Pahune Layout, Piwli Nadi, had gone for a picnic with friends Ashish Roshan Gondane (33) and Sachin Mishra (31) around 2 pm on November 23. While Sachin stepped away briefly for some work around 5.10 pm, Gedam and Ashish returned to the riverbank after swimming.
Around 5.30 pm, four to five unidentified youths approached them and asked for a lighter. Gedam handed it over, after which the group allegedly began abusing the duo. When the victims objected to the behaviour, the youths reportedly launched a violent assault.
Police said the assailants struck both men with stones, leaving Gedam unconscious. They then repeatedly stabbed Ashish in the chest with the intention to kill and stabbed Gedam on his back before fleeing the spot.
Sachin and police were immediately informed, and both victims were rushed to the Sub-District Hospital in Kamptee. Doctors declared Ashish Gondane dead during treatment, while Gedam was shifted to Max Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
Based on Gedam’s complaint, Khaparkheda Police have registered an FIR under Sections 103(1), 109, 352, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified assailants. A manhunt has been launched, and further investigation is underway.
