Filmmaker–composer Palaash Muchhal and Indian women’s cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana were scheduled to get married on Sunday, November 23, in Sangli, Maharashtra. However, just as the celebrations were set to begin, the wedding was abruptly put on hold after both families reported health-related emergencies.
Smriti’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, was admitted to Sarvhit Hospital after showing symptoms of a heart attack. A day later, Palaash was also hospitalized in Sangli following reports of a sudden medical concern.
Soon after the wedding was paused, another development drew public attention: Smriti quietly removed all her Instagram posts related to the wedding, including her engagement announcement and proposal video. The timing of the deletion quickly led to online speculation.
Screenshots on Reddit spark further discussion
Amid the confusion, a separate conversation began circulating online. A Reddit user shared screenshots — claimed to be chats with Palaash — originally posted by an Instagram user named Mary D’Costa. The Instagram account has since been deactivated, but the screenshots continue to spread on social media.
(These screenshots remain unverified.)
Online sentiment suggests that many users believe Smriti may have stepped away from a potentially larger issue, though no official confirmation has been made by either party.
Where things stand now
Smriti had already taken down her proposal video and engagement announcement from her social media accounts yesterday — both of which had gone viral earlier. Meanwhile, Palaash still has all his posts with Smriti visible on his profile.
So far, the only official communication regarding the postponed wedding has come from Palaash’s sister, Palak Muchhal. In an Instagram story, she wrote:
“Due to Smriti’s dad’s health, Smriti and Palaash’s wedding has been put on hold. Would request all of you to respect the privacy of the families in this sensitive time.”
Neither Smriti nor Palaash have made any public statements.
The couple was expected to get married on November 23, with several members of the Indian women’s cricket team already present in Sangli for the pre-wedding functions. However, with the sudden health emergencies — and now the conversations circulating online — the celebrations have been paused indefinitely.
Viral screenshots add to the speculation
Amid the uncertainty, screenshots of alleged chats involving Palaash began circulating widely on Reddit and other platforms. These screenshots, shared by a user named Mary D’Costa, appear to show conversations from May 2025 in which Palaash invites her to go for a swim. When she tries to ask about his relationship status or whether he is in love, he reportedly avoids answering and continues urging her to meet.
The authenticity of these screenshots has not been confirmed, but their circulation quickly made them a major part of the online discussion surrounding the postponed wedding.
Netizens react
As expected, reactions online have been strong — and overwhelmingly in support of Smriti. “Felt the ick just reading through these. Damn, the shamelessness in people,” was one of the first comments on Reddit. Another comment said, “Brother clouded her eyes with grand gestures like getting her initials and jersey number tattooed on his damn arm so he can go cheat in peace without her ever doubting him 🫡.”
One more user wrote, “The way this man couldn’t even say yes and had to divert the topic when she asked him if he loves Smriti.” Another said, “Bruhhhh! Loyalty, where????😵💫 Smriti should just thank her stars for dodging a lying as cheater!🙏” One more comment read, “People act “so in love” on Instagram. Oh god, this is disgusting. I cannot. Love these days is nothing but a joke. These guys are js thirsty. Eww.” And finally, “I’m not saying coz the marriage has been called off , but I found this guy’s behaviour super cringe and ott. I was lowkey sad for her , for some unknown reasons. But damn this guy turned out to be an asshole. Big ups to Smriti for dodging this bullet . I hope her father gets better.”
