Nagpur: Continuing its intensified crackdown on drug networks under Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal’s “Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite for a Drug-Free Society,” the Crime Branch Unit 5 arrested a 19-year-old youth after seizing over 8.7 kg of ganja from his possession on Tuesday evening.
At around 6:15 pm on November 25, officers from Unit 5 received credible information about a suspect carrying a maroon trolley bag while moving between Kadbi Square and Mominpura Square in Tehsil police limits. Acting on the tip-off, the team intercepted the individual near the gate of Pahlwan Baba Dargah.
During questioning in the presence of panch witnesses, the suspect identified himself as Mohammad Kaif Mohammad Jafar, a resident of the Ganjakhet–Mominpura locality. A search of his trolley bag revealed four packets of green ganja, wrapped in khaki-coloured plastic tape, weighing 8 kg 78 g in total.
Police seized the contraband along with the trolley bag and ₹200 cash, taking the total value of the confiscated material to ₹2,02,200. During initial interrogation, Kaif disclosed that he had sourced the ganja with the help of his associate, Anil Patel of Mominpada, Pirbazar, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), who is currently absconding. The accused also admitted that he intended to sell the narcotics for financial gain.
Tehsil Police Station has registered an offence under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29 of the NDPS Act. The arrested youth is now in custody, while efforts are underway to trace the absconding accomplice and identify the broader supply chain.
The action was executed under the supervision of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Naveenchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil, led by PI Sandeep Buwa and his Unit 5 team.
