Nagpur Police have registered a case against a self-proclaimed YouTube journalist for allegedly disseminating false and misleading information regarding an ongoing murder investigation. The action was initiated by Yashodhara Nagar police following a complaint lodged by a police sub-inspector.
The accused, identified as Ritesh Borkar, is the director of the YouTube channel MahaNews 7. The controversy stems from his coverage of the recent murder of BJP ward president Sachin Shahu near Brick Kiln Square. In the case, police had arrested five individuals, including Tarvendersingh alias Sonu Gurubachhansingh Gaur (39) and Paramitsingh alias Babu Gurubachhansingh Gaur (39), both residents of Shahu Mohalla.
As part of the investigation, police searched Sonu’s residence on November 22. However, Borkar allegedly uploaded a video criticising the probe and accusing police personnel of improper conduct. Officers claim the report contained misleading assertions intended to discredit the investigation.
The situation intensified after Sonu—who had initially been released on bail—allegedly issued threats to the Shahu family. Acting on a complaint from the family, police arrested him again.
A case has now been registered against Borkar for spreading misinformation and attempting to influence public perception of the ongoing investigation. Police said further action will follow as per procedure.
