Amid mounting electricity bill defaults across the region, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has launched an intensified recovery campaign, revealing that consumers in the Nagpur Circle alone owe a staggering ₹120 crore. The pending dues come from 1.56 lakh low-tension (LT) consumers spanning domestic, commercial and industrial categories.
Taking the situation seriously, MSEDCL has deployed teams to conduct spot visits to every consumer with outstanding dues above ₹1,000. The drive is being personally supervised by Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke, with subdivision-level teams formed in both Nagpur and Wardha districts — the two areas under the Nagpur Circle.
Unlike previous years, where major recovery operations were taken up in the last quarter, the utility has advanced the initiative to the current quarter due to the alarming rise in unpaid bills.
MSEDCL has cautioned consumers that reconnection charges will be significantly higher if power supply is cut due to non-payment. To restore a connection, consumers must clear all dues along with reconnection fees of ₹310 for single-phase and ₹520 for three-phase meters. The company urged households, commercial establishments, and industries to pay their arrears in time to avoid disruption.
According to data released by the distributor:
- Nagpur district has 1,32,251 defaulters with dues totalling ₹107.35 crore, including
- 1,09,009 domestic
- 19,503 commercial
- 3,739 industrial consumers
- Wardha district recorded 24,535 defaulters, with ₹11.38 crore pending, comprising
- 21,423 domestic
- 2,280 commercial
- 832 industrial consumers
MSEDCL officials reiterated that timely payment will help avoid disconnection and ensure uninterrupted power supply across homes and businesses.
