Police seized over 62 kg of ganja and arrested two youths during a targeted raid in Kalamna under the ongoing anti-drug drive “Operation Thunder”, initiated by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal.
The action took place on December 4 after the Crime Detection Branch at Kalamna Police Station received specific intelligence about a large consignment of ganja hidden near the drainage canal in Bele Nagar. The information indicated that two local men were preparing to sell the contraband.
Acting on the tip-off, a team led by API Shashikant Musale set up a trap near a tin shed beside the nala and maintained overnight surveillance. Around 2 pm, the suspects arrived at the location on a black Honda Activa to collect the hidden stock. The team swiftly intercepted the duo while they were loading the ganja onto the vehicle and detained them.
During the operation, police recovered 62.580 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth ₹12.90 lakh. The consignment is suspected to have been sourced from Odisha. The team also seized a Honda Activa moped worth ₹50,000 and a Vivo mobile phone worth ₹10,000, bringing the total value of seized property to ₹13.50 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
- Harsh Ravi Pandey (19), resident of Bele Nagar, near Taj Noori Masjid, Kalamna
- Mohammed Sohail alias Sohail Siddiqui (22), resident of Bele Nagar, near Afzal Cold Storage, Kalamna
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the wider network supplying narcotics to the city.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of CP Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Addl CP (South Region) Dr. Shivaji Rathod, DCP (Zone 5) Niketan Kadam and ACP (Kalamna Division) Rohit Owal, with support from Senior PI Pravin Kale and the Kalamna police team.
Police officials said efforts are on to identify other members of the supply chain and dismantle drug distribution routes operating in the region.
